Surfing The Thunder

From days of prosperity...now-all gone! A call "for a change" winded the U.S. American landscape. Now gone is the spirit of prosperity! And in it's place? A handedness of privilege and special favors. How could it be that the America of the Constitution-a social contract that assured growth and inclusion--could be relegated to a dust cover status for old glories of the past? For one brief period we sang with the World, embracing the "grace" of harmony. But all too soon America turned away to embrace a different soul stirring-one devoid of truth, justice, mercy.

The Drumming

This onward movement--change-invented for itself a "War." And what hopes and aspirations within America was "spiked," as this "war" does wonders to fracture the American Dream. The fibers of the cultural "fabric"of America unravels with each assault. Yet there is no great outcry confronting this strange new form of "Democracy." The very rights of free speech and the right to descent has been lock away with the Constitution-when the 2000 election locked down the ballot and locked out the "free"and guaranteed right of every American soul to be counted.

The "war cry" established two camps: "Them" and "Us." Now can the "them" and "us" logic be felt within America's borders. "America's War"did more than fracture the lives of peoples of distant lands. Look about the lanes and broadways of our precious America-with eyes open. In the name of security is there now no true United State of America. The fracturing of the American fabric encourages an arena of distrust, an air of privileged expectancy and the division of "them"and "us." If the "them" stemming from the body that makes "them and "us" one is qualified as being a particular type, it would be defined as such: that group excluded from the "inner circle." This group would be further defined as those persons on fixed income, those persons in need of medical and health maintenance, and such persons upon a daily struggle to maintain the basic necessities. The invented "war" has drawn a line "privileging" one group and "deferring the hopes of another-especially in America.

Fading To Black

You may preclude that the majority of the Black community fall within this category of "deferment." This category is devoid of privilege. Therefore, all gains by the Black community over the ages become as smoke in the wind. And what used to be known as opportunities are filtered through a prism of "special favors." The stereotypical question has been: Can the Black family survive? As the whole of the American culture realizes the existence of the Black family structure, the logic has now shifted to question whether or not the Black ethic group in America has taken unfair advantages of the guarantees housed within the Constitution. If blind Justice whose scale of justness now begs mercy can be trussed up with something as un-Constitutional and un-American as the verbiage of "enemy combatant," what's to guaranty that the Black soul, having his dreams once again deferred, is not easily "registered" as an "enemy combatant," and is thus treated not by the guarantees of the Constitution and the "inalienable rights" from God but by some arbitrary political whim set on some fabricated course?

In the tradition of America's forefathers of the Black persuasion-the likes of Frederic Douglas and William Edward Burghardt Du Bois-America's Black community claims the entitlement of true citizenship...with all it's guarantees. And as in the case of Langston Huges' character-Jesse B. Simple-American's Black community has a the desire and the right to be counted always.

OF Literary Note

In America, as in any other country, people are people-with similar will, desire, hopes, drive, and expectation. And know that no ethnic heritage divides a soul or collective group from such elements of human nature. That said, now, in the tradition of Langston Huges and Countee Cullen I present to the American public and the World stage the following short story:

"Let Lester Lipton Live A Little Longer Ladies"

window of imagination

Enjoy!

REMEMBER: Effects upon the BLACK community now will undoubtedly affect the American proper in the future.

So, find time to browse--even upon a sea of troubles!
